Geography
Thailand is one of those countries that has it all when it comes to geography. Mountains, beaches, islands, jungles—you name it.
Up north, around Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai, you’ll find beautiful mountains and cooler weather. It’s the perfect place for hiking, visiting hill tribes, and exploring temples tucked away in the hills.
Down south? That’s where the famous beaches are. Think Phuket, Krabi, Koh Samui, and all those picture-perfect islands with white sand and turquoise water. The southern part of Thailand is actually split by two seas—the Andaman Sea on one side and the Gulf of Thailand on the other. So, yes, you’re spoiled for choice when it comes to beach life.
In the middle of the country, you’ve got Bangkok and the central plains. This area is the heart of Thailand, both literally and culturally. It’s home to rice fields, historical cities like Ayutthaya, and of course, the bustling capital itself.
Then there’s the northeast, called Isaan. It’s more rural, with open countryside, small villages, and friendly locals. It’s also where you’ll find ancient ruins and unique food you won’t get anywhere else.
Thailand’s geography is part of what makes life here so fun as an expat. Whether you want to chill on a beach, explore a jungle, or sip coffee in the mountains, it’s all possible—and usually just a short trip away.
